As announced last June, FONS (Forest Operations Notifications) transitioned to the online Forest Online Resource Tool (FOResT) on 01 January, 2021

To help landowners, loggers, and foresters become familiar with the new online system, the Maine Forest Service will offer a public, online overview and demonstration session on FOResT on March 31.

This session will contain:

  • 40-45 minute overview of FOResT followed by 15-20 minutes for attendees to ask questions.
  • 10 minute break
  • 1.5 hour in-depth demo of FOResT followed by 30 minutes for attendees to ask questions

This is the ninth and final session.

Stream Smart Road Crossing Workshop

Maine Audubon is hosting a Stream Smart workshop on April 6, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Join us to learn about:

  • the value of free-flowing streams;
  • the regulations that are applicable when working on road/stream crossings;
  • the principles of building Stream Smart crossings;
  • the costs and benefits of Stream Smart crossings; and
  • where to look for funding.

Maine Audubon works with partners all across the state to provide training on how to construct culverts and bridges that restore and maintain fish and wildlife habitat while also protecting roads and public safety. Maine Audubon offers introductory workshops as well as hands-on field trainings for road professionals. The workshop is free but pre-registration is required. The workshop will be held online on Zoom.

Logging and Forestry Education Grant Program - Request for Proposals Sought

Due Date: Wednesday, April 21, 2021

The Bureau of Parks and Lands is seeking applications for the first round of the new Logging and Forestry Education Grant Program. Grant applications may be up to $50,000 and eligible applicants are limited to Maine public secondary or public postsecondary institutions or career and technical education centers that are related to logging or forestry. Given the importance of a skilled logging workforce to the sustainable harvest of timber from Maine’s Public Reserved Lands, the purpose of this logging and forestry education grant program is to assist in the development of logging professionals.
