New Maine Geologic Fact and Locality Available

The Maine Geological Survey (MGS) is pleased to announce the release of the latest Maine Geologic Fact and Locality (GFL): The Esker Loop Trail, Gilead. The trail is a relatively easy loop that was recently added to the Mahoosuc Land Trust’s many hikes in the Bethel region. This month’s GFL is a quick guide to some of the local glacial geology along the trail, which includes an excellent esker segment (photo) and glacial lake deposits. Nice views of the Androscoggin are also worth a mid-hike pause.
