Hemp
Maine's popular winter agricultural event is entirely online this year starting Tuesday January 19 and ending Saturday January 23, 2021. It's free, there are virtual booths, and both live and recorded presentations, but you have to register. We recommend checking out the entire schedule. Maine's hemp program will have an hour-long, live update starting at 8:30 am on Tuesday, January 19.
This Ag Trades Show/Maine BPC/UMaine Extension collab is on Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 2:30 to 5 pm. I'll offer an introduction to the hemp licensing program but mostly the focus is on IPM and elevating understanding about pesticides, especially when it comes to hemp grown for CBD. IPM Entomologist Kathy Murray and Pesticide Registrar Mary Tomlinson are the featured presenters. You need to register for the Zoom link and passcode. Webinar completion confers 2 recertification credits.
This one is coming right up, January 20-23, 2021, and normally I wouldn't be writing about a California-based conference at such short notice. If you've ever been to an EcoFarm Conference at beautiful Asilomar, you know how special it is. This year's is virtual, of course, and I just noticed a pre-conference event on Wednesday, January 13, called "Lessons from the Hemp Field: Navigating Opportunities & Risks of the New Market" from 9 to noon PACIFIC TIME. It's $20, but whether you are expected to also pay for conference registration is an unanswered question at this time. For more information, visit EcoFarm.
Mark your calendars for Friday, February 26, 2021, for UVM's third annual hemp conference, a virtual event. There is currently a call for sponsors and exhibitors; deadline is January 22.
