The 2020 Maine Agricultural Trades Show occurs Tuesday, January 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday January 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday, January 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center, Augusta Maine.

Local Food in Schools: Building Partnerships with School Nutrition Programs

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

This session is for Maine farmers/producers and Maine farm to school advocates/stakeholders.

WHAT IS THE ACTIVITY:

At the Maine Agricultural Trades Show, on January 16th from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, the Maine Farm to School Network Leadership Council invites you to a discussion about selling local food to Maine K-12 schools. This session will feature a panel of Maine public school nutrition directors discussing requirements and protocol for purchasing local foods. Meet and greet some of the school nutrition professionals who are leading the local procurement movement in Maine and build relationships. Our conversation will include:

  • Bidding/Purchasing requirements for school food buyers
  • Best practices and frequently asked questions, challenges, and roadblocks
  • Successful business partnership examples
  • Distributors vs. direct sales
  • Forward contracts
  • Harvest of the month program
