What: 3rd Maine Modern Wood Heat Symposium with keynote address by United States Senator Angus King
When: Monday, November 4, 2019, 9 AM to 2 PM with Sen. King’s keynote address at 9:15 AM
Where: University of Southern Maine, Portland Campus, University Events Center, 7th Floor, Glickman Library, Forest Avenue, Portland ME, exit 6 off I-295.
Background: Sponsored by the Maine Forest Service, the 3rd Maine Modern Wood Heat Symposium will bring together stakeholders from the private and public sector to discuss the opportunities to use wood from Maine’s forests in advanced heating of commercial, institutional and industrial applications.
Senator Angus King is a member of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee with extensive knowledge of the role that wood bioenergy can play in meeting Maine’s energy needs and supporting a healthy forest economy. He has sponsored numerous bills, including the Biomass Thermal Utilization Act of 2019, that would help to advance this technology in Maine for heating schools, office buildings, hospitals, and all manner of commercial and institutional buildings.
The symposium will feature presentations on new policies recently adopted or under consideration by the Maine Legislature and Governor Janet Mills to advance modern wood biomass heating and combined heat & power.
The Maine Statewide Wood Energy Assistance Team is coordinated by the Maine Forest Service with funding support from the USDA Forest Service.
