Midcoast Maine-- Cheese-lovers seeking a taste of place and handcrafted dairy products, are invited to tour Midcoast Maine creameries on Sunday, July 28, 2019 during the 30th Anniversary of Maine's Open Farm Day.
The participating farms offer tours of creameries, samples of handcrafted cheeses varieties made using cow, water buffalo, goat and sheep milks, all made in Maine. There will be a chance to shop for available products. Event details and information are available on the Midcoast Cheese Trail's website.
Maine has more than 60 licensed creameries across the state. Additional creameries, and information about their cheeses and events may be found at the Maine Cheese Guild website.

Appleton Creamery 780 Gurneytown Road, Appleton Hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meet the goats, tour the farm, see where the cheese is made, sample cheese! Other vendors will be joining us, including bread, goats milk soap, ice cream, and pizza from the outdoor pizza oven!
ME Water Buffalo Co. 232 Old County Road, Appleton Hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come see where the water buffalo roam in Appleton! Meet the buffalo, feed the pet goats, sheep & lambs & learn about our farm. Bring your own lunch to enjoy a picnic on the lawn. Visit our farm store for water buffalo cheeses, yogurt & gelato, buffalo tallow products, buffalo meat & whey fed pork.
Barred Owl Creamery @ Hamilton Farm 6 South Fowles Lane, Whitefield Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tour the farm, meet the animals, watch cheese being made, stop in to the farm store for some of our farmstead cheese, wool products (sheep skins, pillows, yarn & dryer balls), canned goods, fresh veggies & baked goods.
Copper Tail Farm 293 Genthner Road, Waldoboro Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Copper Tail Farm is an Animal Welfare- approved Goat Dairy that produces high-quality farmstead goat milk products, including cheese, yogurt, kefir, caramel sauce and soap. Visitors will be able to see the goats, tour the farm, and sample/purchase products.
East Forty Farm And Dairy 2361 Friendship Road, Waldoboro Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Home of Lakin’s Gorges Cheese and Foley’s Custom Sawmill. Farm, creamery and sawmill tours; ask Q and A with farmer, cheesemaker and sawyer. Cheese plates for sale. Picnic under grape arbor, and walk down to the Medomak River to admire the clam flats.
Pumpkin Vine Family Farm 217 Hewett Road, Somerville Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Goat dairy and farm education center. Tours of goat kids in the barn, and working goats in pasture. See where we milk goats, make and age cheese. Shop our Farmer’s Market (11-3) and enjoy our picnic area. Activities for children, and learn about our farm camp.
Fuzzy Udder Creamery 35 Townhouse Road, Whitefield Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit our farm and meet the sheep and goats that produce the milk for our fine cheeses. Tour our creamery and milking parlor and learn about milking goats and sheep and making cheese. All our farm products available to taste and to buy.
Springdale Farm 165 Birches Road, Waldo Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will be hosting a pasture walk, have baby calves and cows to view and pet, tractors to view and cheese to sample and buy. We will also have a display of the history of our farm.
Toddy Pond Farm 174 Carver Road, Monroe Hours: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors are welcome to tour and visit our cows, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens and honey bees. Maps of the farm area provided. Buy our yogurts, cheese, fermented vegetables, salami, honey, ice cream sandwiches, pork, beef and chicken at our onsite farmstand; we will have our grill going with food for sale.
