SCORE Maine Launches Legacy Planning for Farmers

Portland, Maine— SCORE (www.score.org), mentors to America’s small businesses, in partnership with MassMutual, will offer a workshop for farm businesses entitled Legacy Planning for Farmers. The SCORE/MassMutual workshop helps small business owners plan for the future of their business. SCORE is committed to helping entrepreneurs for the life of their business, including planning for any phase a farm business may go through.

Lagacy Planning for Farmers includes programming on succession planning, retirement planning and estate planning for farm owners. SCORE also offers free, personalized and confidential mentoring sessions in conjunction with the workshop.

“This workshop offers attendees a variety of perspectives on preparing for the next stage of their small business. The pros and cons of each scenario is discussed, helping farm business owners to acquire the information they need to plan for the future that best suits their situation,” said SCORE CEO Ken Yancey. “Small business owners should know how to do business valuation, how to choose and prepare a successor, and the steps to take to make sure they are able to enjoy the retirement that they envision for themselves. SCORE is here to help every step of the way.”

This workshop will be held on Wednesday May 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at Cumberland County Cooperative Extension, 75 Clearwater Drive, Falmouth, ME 04105. For more information or to register, call SCORE Maine at 207-772-1147 or visit https://conta.cc/2UUuKqy.

“Every small business owner will eventually exit their business, and this workshop prepares them for the scenarios they will almost certainly come across. We will help them to define the true value of their business, as well as their options for their own personal future.” said Steve Veazey SCORE Maine District Director. “Helping farm business owners with their succession planning, and leaving a legacy while preparing for a comfortable retirement, really benefits the community at large. We want the small businesses in our community to thrive for many generations to come.”

This workshop is sponsored locally by SCORE Maine and MassMutual.
