Greenhouse Best Practices Workshop

Growing plants in a greenhouse, hoop-house, or high tunnel? Attend this workshop at O’Donal’s Nursery and Garden Center to learn production tips for growing healthy plants. Tour the new geothermal greenhouse and learn how this family-owned business uses ‘best practices’ to grow their business, ensure sustainable profitability, produce healthy plants, and safeguard the health of their employees. Learn what’s new in pest prevention, identification and biological control. Whether you are a new grower looking to get started, a more experienced grower looking to expand into new crops, or just want to see what’s new, this workshop is for you.

10:00-10:15 Break

10:15-11:15 Biological Control—Ronald Valentin, Director of Technical Business, BioWorks

11:15-12:00 Overview of our Production Practices —Jeff O’Donal, owner, O’Donal’s Nurseries.

12:00-12:45 Lunch

12:45-2:45 Tours and hands on activities:

  • Plant Disease Diagnosis–Alicyn Smart, University of Maine

2:45-3:15 grower to grower discussion and questions for speakers

3:15-3:30 Wrap-up and pesticide credits (4 credits offered).
