April 4: Propagating Natives for Profit and Productivity with Dan Jaffe & Peter van Berkum
Join us for a course designed to help increase growers’ confidence to grow more native plants in nurseries, greenhouses and in landscape settings. Dan Jaffe of New England Wild Flower Society and Peter van Berkum, co-owner of Van Berkum Nursery, will present methods to responsibly and effectively propagate native plants from cultivated and wild landscapes. They will share what native plants they choose to grow, why the plants are important to use in the landscape, budgetary considerations, and methods of landscape cultivation for long-term success. This class is ideal for experienced and new growers, gardeners and landscape designers who want to expand their plant palette and to become more confident in using an extensive selection of beautiful, ecologically functional and essential native plants.
This class counts for 3 credits towards license certification from the Maine Board of Pesticides Control, Northeast Organic Farming Association's Organic Land Care Program, and the Maine Landscape and Nursery Association.
