Maine Conservation Corps is Hiring for 2019!


Environmental Steward with Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District: Start Immediately!

Location: Windham, ME
Deadline for applications: 1/18/2019
Start date: ASAP, ideally prior to 2/18/2019
End date: 43 weeks after start date, must be completed by 12/20/2019
Days and hours of service: 40 hours per week; may include evenings, weekends and holidays

*Housing is not provided at this site

This 1700-hour position will receive a total living allowance of $15,500 distributed over 43 weeks and if eligible, an AmeriCorps educational award of $5920.00 upon successful completion of the program. Other benefits include health insurance, a range of training and networking opportunities and a Maine State Park Pass. Some members may also be eligible for student loan forbearance and childcare reimbursement.

The ES will collaborate with CCSWCD staff and program partners to conduct several educational programs and organize multiple volunteer events to promote clean water and healthy soils. Three large-scale projects the ES will assist with include CCSWCD’s annual Urban Runoff 5K event, CCSWCD’s biennial State of Maine Stormwater Conference, and a newly acquired grant to establish community agriculture in the Town of Gorham through educational workshops and planting demonstrations. Additional tasks would include classroom education, social marketing/website updates, and overall assistance of general CCSWCD needs as they arise.

Field Team Leaders

Training Dates: April 8 - June 14, 2019

Field Season: June 17 - Oct. 18, 2019

Looking for the chance to pass on your trail knowledge to the next generation of trail stewards? If you have leadership and outdoor experience, we want to talk to you!

In the spring, Team Leaders will participate in leadership skills development, covering essential hard and soft skills, and will complete conservation projects as part of a team of Team Leader-trainees.

The Team Leader position requires mentorship, patience, technical aptitude, focus on efficiency, and a high level of comfort in the outdoors to lead your crew to victory!

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must submit to criminal and sex offender background checks
  • Two seasons of trail work experience in an outdoor leadership role
  • Previous experience with construction work

Field Coordinator

Application Deadline: Sunday, February 3rd, 2019

Dates: April 22 – October 18, 2019 

Have you successfully lead field teams in the past, and are looking for a chance to grow? Get in touch! Our Field Coordinators provide mentorship and support to our teams during training and the field season.

The person in this position should not only possess technical aptitude, but also the interpersonal skills to help people achieve their goals!

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must submit to criminal history check
  • Must be approved to drive State vehicles by the Risk Management Division
  • Two seasons of trail work experience in leadership role with an AmeriCorps and/or Conservation Corps program
  • Previous experience with construction work

Environmental Stewards

If developing and facilitating environmental education programs, collecting important environmental data, or leading volunteers to complete conservation projects sounds interesting to you, an Environmental Stewardship is a great choice! Environmental Stewards serve individually with state and private organizations throughout the state of Maine to help improve the capacity of their host organization by planning conservation projects, as well as developing, training, and sustaining a volunteer base.

Environmental Stewards gain experience and training in:

Team Members and Assistant Team Leaders

Field Team Members and Assistant Team Leaders are AmeriCorps members who will serve on a team to accomplish conservation projects throughout the state of Maine. Members will also participate in training, adhere to all MCC policies, and live cooperatively with other team members during their term of service.
