Today is Geologic Map Day, Day 6 of the American Geosciences Institute’s Earth Science Week (www.earthsciweek.org). Did you know that you can view Maine geologic maps and data online in the Maine Geological Survey’s interactive web map viewer? Check out the Maine Geology Web Maps on our website where you can:

  • Zoom in to your area of interest.
  • Select maps or data to view from the layer list.
  • Get more information about a geologic map or links to the full document by clicking on the map.
  • Turn layers on and off or change their transparency for easy comparison.
  • Select from several different base maps such as aerial imagery or topographic maps.
  • Even add your own data to the map viewer!

When you are done constructing your custom map, you can export to PDF or other graphic file format to save your work.

For more tips and tricks see our web map help document and visit the Maine Geological Survey’s Maps, Publications and Data site to access all available digital geologic information.
