New Maine Geologic Fact and Locality Available

Quaggy Jo Mountain

The Maine Geological Survey (MGS) is pleased to announce the release of the latest Maine Geologic Fact and Locality (GFL): Quaggy Jo Mountain, Aroostook State Park, Presque Isle, Maine.  This month's GFL author Robert Marvinney, State Geologist, takes us to Maine's first state park for a walking tour of the area's sedimentary rocks and some gorgeous views of Maine and New Brunswick.  These rocks have not been subject to metamorphism like many areas to the south so the original sedimentary structure and fossils have not been destroyed.  You will also learn how this unique bedrock history accounts for the fertile soils of northeastern Maine.

For an interactive web map and listing of all previously published GFLs please visit MGS Geologic Facts and Localities.
