Recreational Trails Program
Application materials for the 2019 grant year are now posted to the Maine BPL Recreational Trails Program website.
The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is an assistance program of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The RTP provides funds to the States to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for motorized and nonmotorized recreational trail uses.
RTP funding is available to assist with the construction, rehabilitation, and or maintenance of all forms of publicly accessible recreational trails, trailhead and trailside amenities. There is also a small fund available to assist with trail related safety and environmental education programs.
To learn more about RTP please visit the website linked above or attend one of the upcoming RTP regional workshops.
Five RTP regional workshops have been scheduled to take place the last two weeks of May. Workshops provide background information on the RTP funding program and tips for successful applications. Anyone interested in learning more about RTP with an eye toward applying for funding in this current grant round is encouraged to attend. Applications for this grant round are due in late September for projects that will be able to get under way in the spring of 2019.
