Tour the Active Harvest - Skowhegan

The State owned Yankee Woodlot Demonstration Forest is on its second year of a two year harvest schedule. Come visit and see the equipment, meet with the managing team and contractor to ask any questions or concerns you might have about harvesting. This is an informal session to allow folks to walk an active harvest job and learn why things are done they way they are. We will meet at the Somerset County Cooperative Extension Office, 7 County Drive, Skowhegan. Please be prepared for the weather and no need to pre-register. Any questions contact Patty Cormier at 592-2238 or patty.cormier@maine.gov.

Apple Tree Pruning - Skowhegan

At the Somerset County Cooperative Extension Office, 7 County Drive, Skowhegan Want to learn how to prune those apple trees in your yard or brush up on your pruning skills? If so, then come out to The Yankee Woodlot in Skowhegan on Sunday, February 18th where apple tree enthusiast Joe Dembeck will discuss methods and tools used to prune apple trees in order to increase their viability and production. After a brief overview participants will then head outdoors to learn and test their skills pruning apple trees. Dress warm as we will venture outdoors for the event. Feel free to bring your own pruning equipment if you like. There will be pruning poles/saws, hand saws, loppers, etc. for you to try. Pre-registration is required as this event is limited to 20 Participants.
