Notice of Public Open House
New FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Washington County

The Maine Floodplain Management Program and FEMA will jointly host two public open houses in Washington County. New FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) will go effective on July 18, 2017. Flooding is the number one natural disaster in the United States so it is vital for property owners to understand their risk and how it may be changing with the release of new FIRMs. If you think you may be in a flood zone or are unclear how you may be affected, you may choose to attend the open house that is most convenient for you. No formal presentations will be made and no appointment is necessary.

You may drop by any time during the hours shown below. Representatives from FEMA, the State, and their mapping partners, will be available to answer flood risk and insurance questions. Staff can also help property owners identify and understand how their risk may be changing. Property owners are encouraged to bring their elevation certificates and/or flood insurance policies to the event in order to get the best information about how their flood insurance rates may change as a result of the new mapping and legislative insurance reforms.

Open houses to be held at the:
Washington County Emergency Management Agency
28 Center St, Machias
Monday, May 8, 2017 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Tuesday, May 9, 2017 9:00 am – 12 noon

If you are unable to attend an open house and you need assistance, you may also
contact the Maine Floodplain Management Program at the state Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry:
