The National Association of State Foresters (NASF)
recently presented achievement awards to nine individuals who have made
outstanding contributions in wildland fire protection, urban and community
forestry, forest management and overall leadership. Don Mansius, Director of
the Maine Forest Service, Forest Policy and Management
Division, was awarded the Ken Arney
Current Achievement Award for Forest Resource Management.
Congratulations, Don!
The
2016 awards were presented at the 2016 NASF annual meeting in Savannah,
Georgia. Don was nominated by his staff for the work he has
accomplished to promote, support and strengthen the forestry community in
Maine and nationwide. Many attendees at the NASF meeting approached Maine’s
state forester, Doug Denico, asking him to pass on their congratulations to Don
on a much deserved award and expressing their admiration for his
prominence in management and leadership.
“Every
year we are inspired by the achievements of so many leaders and partners in the
forestry community, who are working to ensure the future sustainability of our
nation’s trees and forests,” said Wisconsin State Forester Paul DeLong and
President of the National Association of State Foresters. “The individuals
we’re honoring today were selected by a team of current and former State
