We invite folks to join us on October 16th to meet over 20 of Maine’s Artisan  cheesemakers and discover, sample, and buy their cheeses. This event will be held at Savage Oakes Winery in Union where we will showcase over 100 varieties of Maine-made cheeses. Savage Oakes Winery is an ideal location to host this festival as their wines pair well with our cheeses. In addition to wine, Savage Oakes will provide locally sourced food and non-alcoholic beverages available for sale. This event features local music from the southern mid-coast based band, Rough Sawn, made up of farmers, carpenters and cheese lovers playing classic country, Western swing, bluegrass and originals from 1 to 3pm. There will also be chef demos, Q and A sessions with cheesemakers and cheese-centric raffles throughout the day. Tickets are $10 can be purchased at the door or on our website www.mainecheeseguild.com. Kids under 12 attend free. The event is rain or shine.

Maine boasts more cheesemakers per capita than any other state, currently with 81 licensed cheesemakers here in Maine. The Guild is holding this festival as a Guild fundraiser towards fostering and growing Maine made cheese. This festival will feature the fine craftsmanship and diversity of flavors that Maine cheesemakers have to offer.

It has been over 10 years since the Guild has held a cheese festival and in that time, the number of licensed cheesemakers in the state has blossomed from 16 to over 80 with dozens more aspiring farmers and cheesemakers in the pipeline.

The Maine Cheese Guild’s Mission is to support and encourage the Maine cheesemaking community. We do this through development of a collective voice to promote Maine cheese and cheesemakers, educate cheese makers and consumers, coordinate resources and share the joy and art of regional cheeses. The Maine Cheese Guild’s mission is made possible through the contributions of our supporting partners program, including Five Islands Farm located in Georgetown Maine.
