Biomass in Maine – Where Are We Now, Where Are We Going
Biomass markets in Maine are
changing, with the recent closure of two stand-alone biomass plants and the
loss of biomass markets at some pulp and paper mills. In 2014 biomass
accounted for an estimate 22% of Maine’s timber harvest – what is happening in
this market, and what are the opportunities for the future. We will
discuss current efforts to support biomass, and a new project taking shape.

Saturday, April 16th from 9 am to
noon at Sawin Hill Farm in Waterford
Many woodland owners in Maine have
forgotten apple trees that are struggling to survive. Though many of these
trees are of wild origin and may not be enjoyable to humans for food, there is
a diverse amount of wildlife that would welcome the chance for these apples! If
you would like to learn some tips on how to make these trees prosper please
join us at Sawin Hill Farm in Waterford on Saturday, April 16th. Apple tree
enthusiast Joe Dembeck will discuss methods and tools used to revive and manage
them.
This is a free event and there is
no need to pre-register.
Directions: From
Norway village follow Rt. 118 west for approximately 12 miles. Turn right onto
