On September 30, military leaders and community partners gathered for a full-day summit focused on suicide prevention and strengthening support for Maryland’s military-connected community. During the Mission Strong Summit, Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller delivered the keynote address, “Cultivating Strong Communities.”
Combining Maryland Joins Forces’ community-building efforts with Face the Fight’s evidence-based suicide prevention strategies, participants explored practical ways to address unemployment, housing instability and food insecurity while building stronger connections for service members, veterans and their families. Sponsored by USAA, the summit was held at the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM).
Maryland’s One-Stop Government Shop initiative has been named one of the Top 12 finalists for the 2026 America’s Transportation Awards by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. This national recognition celebrates what agencies can accomplish when they work together to better serve residents.
Through the partnership between DVMF and the MVA, veterans and their families can access benefits assistance and MVA services in a single visit at participating branches. Bringing these services together reduces barriers, saves time and connects more Marylanders with the support they have earned.
Now, you can help Maryland bring home the People’s Choice Award, which is determined by online public voting, weighted by state population. Voting is open through Sunday, November 15, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Eligible military service members, spouses and dependents can now obtain an MVA nonresident vehicle permit at no cost under Senate Bill 111, effective October 1st.
For military families in Maryland, the permit is mandatory. Vehicles must remain properly registered in their home state.
Visit MVA’s Nonresident Vehicle Permits page to learn about eligibility and how to apply. For additional information about Senate Bill 111, read MVA’s legislative update.
