Dear Veterans, Ambassadors, Community Partners, and Friends,
This fall, we invite you to share your voice, connect with resources, and help another veteran or military family do the same.
Join us for Mission Maryland on November 7, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Veteran Services Center at Goodwill in Frederick. This resource and career fair brings together organizations offering benefits assistance, employment opportunities, and support for veterans and military families. Explore Mission Maryland and register.
Also, save the date for the Stand Down on November 19. Learn more about attending and available services on our website. Explore Stand Down information.
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Take time to connect with your healthcare provider about breast health questions and recommended screenings, and explore the resources included in this issue.
Please register for a remaining listening tour session, make plans to attend an upcoming event, and share these opportunities with someone who could benefit. Your participation helps us reach and support Maryland’s military-connected community.
With appreciation, Roslyn

The following three cancer types have been included in the list of presumptive diseases:
- Male breast cancer.
- Urethral cancer.
- Cancer of the paraurethral glands.
This policy establishes presumptions of service connection for eligible Gulf War and post-9/11 Veterans who deployed to Afghanistan, Somalia, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Uzbekistan, and the entire Southwest Asia theater of operations, which includes Iraq. Presumptive service connection means VA automatically assumes service connection for the disease and provides benefits to eligible Veterans who have submitted claims with evidence of a diagnosis.
Contact a DVMF benefits specialist to initiate, prepare, and submit a VA claim to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Harriet Tubman Summit, held September 26–27, 2026, provided an opportunity to honor the extraordinary life, leadership, and enduring legacy of Harriet Tubman. The weekend brought together men and women from all branches of the military, community members, historians, family members, and supporters to reflect on Tubman’s courage, commitment to freedom, and service to others. Also in attendance were members of the Maryland Veterans Commission, and other Veteran Service Organizations (VSO).
Ms. Millicent Sparks performed her interpretation of the life of one of the most celebrated figures - Harriet Tubman, and provided public awareness of the Underground Railroad and the Civil War.
