Maryland Veterans Service Animal Program and Fund
During the 2017 Maryland Legislative Session, Senate Bill 441 created the Maryland Veterans Service Animal Program and Fund in the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs.
The bill was approved by Governor Hogan May 4 and took effect July 1, 2017.
The Program educates veterans and the community about Maryland based service dog programs and the benefits such dogs may provide to veterans living with a disability.
The Program also establishes the Maryland Veterans Service Animal Program Fund in the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs. Donations to the fund will be disbursed by the Department to participating service animal programs to reimburse for costs associated with training and placing a service dog with a military veteran.

MDVA Cemetery & Memorials Program
Recently, thousands of volunteers worked to place wreaths on the graves on Veterans in Maryland Veterans Cemeteries. Many of those same volunteers will return to the cemeteries to help with cleanup. Please read the following notice if you plan to sponsor a wreath or volunteer with Wreaths Across America in 2018:
The Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is proud to partner with Wreaths Across America for their annual wreath laying ceremony and event. In 2017 alone, an estimated 35,000 wreaths were purchased and placed at the five state veteran cemeteries. Wreaths are sponsored by individuals and are purchased exclusively through the Wreaths Across America Program. Each of the state veteran cemeteries has an assigned Wreaths Across America Coordinator who plans for the event and arranges for distribution and placement of wreaths each year. Individuals or organizations who are interested in sponsoring a wreath must directly contact Wreaths Across America. MDVA, while serving as a host site, does not collect donations or participate in the sale of wreaths. Additionally, planning and facilitation of the entire event is the responsibility of Wreaths Across America. The Department looks forward to continuing to serve as a host site for this event and to continuing its commitment to honoring our veterans and families. For more information on Wreaths Across America and how you, or your organization, can sponsor a wreath, please visit http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/#get-involved.
