One of the events I'm most excited about this month is the upcoming Flag Day celebration in St. Michaels. What began as an idea has grown into a true community effort, with local organizations, volunteers, businesses, and residents all coming together to make it happen. To me, that's what makes Talbot250 special—not just the events themselves, but the partnerships and community spirit behind them.
As we explore this month's theme, Freedom & the Pursuit of Liberty, I'm reminded that strong communities are built when people choose to get involved. Whether you're attending Flag Day, volunteering, or sharing your story, you're helping shape how we commemorate this historic milestone.

FLAG DAY: St. Michaels Community Center Summer Concert Series

FLAG DAY: Parks & Poles Historical Walking Tour
Explore St. Michaels through a self-guided historical walking tour featuring 13 stops inspired by the original colonies. Visit local parks, discover stories from St. Michaels' past, and learn about the significance of Flag Day along the way.
The Constitution Alliance and Talbot250 is partnering with the Talbot County Free Library to host a special stop at the St. Michaels Branch featuring Talbot County Celebrates the Declaration of Independence, including an augmented reality greeting from George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Easton Elks Flag Day Ceremony
Join the Easton Elks Lodge #1622 for its annual Flag Day Ceremony, a longstanding tradition honoring the American flag and the values it represents. The ceremony will feature a performance by the Mid-Shore Community Band and conclude with complimentary apple crumb cake and ice cream.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of community, patriotism, and remembrance.

FLAG DAY: Flag Day Picnic + Boat Parade
Celebrate Flag Day and America's 250th anniversary at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum during this community-wide event featuring free museum admission, family activities, live music, historical exhibits, and a patriotic boat parade through St. Michaels Harbor. The museum's waterfront campus will serve as the centerpiece of a day dedicated to history, community, and civic pride.

Juneteenth Community Celebration
Join Talbot250 and community partners as we commemorate Juneteenth and reflect on the continuing pursuit of freedom and equality in America. Visitors will be invited to participate in our interactive "What Does Freedom Mean to You?" reflection activity.

 Speaker Series: The American Revolution and the Fate of the World
Historian and award-winning author Richard Bell explores the American Revolution as a global conflict that reshaped lives, nations, and empires around the world. Drawing from his acclaimed book, The American Revolution and the Fate of the World, Bell examines the war's far-reaching impact from the Caribbean and Canada to India, Sierra Leone, and Peru. A reception begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture, Q&A, and book signing.

Community Spotlight: The Bayside Quilters of the Eastern Shore are displaying more than 35 patriotic-themed quilts at the Easton Branch of the Talbot County Free Library through August 28. The exhibit highlights both artistic craftsmanship and the many ways Americans have commemorated their nation's history across generations. |

Opening June 14, CBMM’s Emblems of America special exhibition highlights patriotic imagery on trailboards, figureheads, and other marine carvings in its collection, many of which are on long-term display in the Van Lennep Auditorium.

 This month, Talbot250 is exploring the theme Freedom & the Pursuit of Liberty. As we prepare to commemorate America's 250th anniversary, Commission members have been reflecting on what freedom means in their own lives and communities.
