From the Editor
Growing up in Talbot County, the water isn't just scenery—it is part of the rhythm of life. My great grandfather was a waterman, and like so many others in our community, his days started before the sun rose and ended long after the tide rolled out. His hands told the story of the Bay—of hard work, of changing seasons, of deep respect for the water that provided and demanded in equal measure.
This month’s Talbot250 theme, Maritime Heritage, isn’t just history to me—it’s legacy. It’s the sound of gulls and the creak of a dock, the smell of salt and crab pots, and the pride that comes from knowing your roots run deep along this shoreline.
Soak up the last of the summer sun, and thank a watermen along the way for preserving this important piece of our history! Learn more about this month's theme here: Heroes of the Chesapeake — Talbot 250
Warm regards,
Sarah Kilmon Communications Coordinator Talbot County Government

As summer winds down, Talbot250 is looking forward to a fall filled with opportunities to connect with our shared history.
In September, we’ll mark Constitution Week with events that honor the principles that shaped our nation and Frederick Douglass Day. October brings Colonel Tench Tilghman Week, celebrating one of Talbot’s own Revolutionary War heroes, as well as the 100th Anniversary of the Talbot County Free Library and our One Maryland, One Book Tour Stop at Chesapeake College. We’ll continue into November, where we're celebrating Nace’s Day, honoring Nathaniel “Uncle Nace” Hopkins and his legacy of freedom, community, and service.
We are honored to be assisting with these important historical commemorations.
We invite the community to get involved—whether by attending, volunteering, or helping us share these stories and events.
If you or your organization would like to partner on programming, host an event, or help us spread the word, we’d love to hear from you. Just email talbot250@talbotcountymd.gov
