From the Editor
As we move into June, I’m reminded of how many stories—of freedom, identity, service, and celebration—come to light this time of year. Juneteenth and Pride Month invite us to reflect on progress and the people who made it possible. It’s also a time to honor our nation’s military, especially as we mark the 250th anniversary of the American military this year—an important milestone that connects directly to the founding values we’ll celebrate on Independence Day.
Here in Talbot County, the Talbot250 Commission is keeping the storytelling going with Talbot Treasures, a one-of-a-kind event where neighbors are sharing artifacts and heirlooms that bring our local history to life. I hope you’ll stop by and take it all in—and stay tuned for a special Fourth of July edition of this newsletter. As always, this is just a snapshot. You can find more ways to get involved at Talbot250.org.
Warm regards,
Sarah Kilmon Communications Coordinator Talbot County Government

Through various events and initiatives, the Talbot250 Commission encourages local participation to ensure that everyone has a voice in commemorating this significant milestone. One of our signature events is upcoming this weekend and we encourage you to attend and participate!

Talbot Treasures
Organized by the Talbot250 Commission with Talbot Historical Society and the Waterfowl Festival, Talbot Treasures is a unique historical exhibit that highlights personal relics and antiques with a meaningful connection to Talbot County. Items include relics from the Moton School, commemorative items from the Tilghman Packing Company, and a cannonball from the Battle of St. Michaels.
The event will be open to the public on Saturday, June 14th, at the Waterfowl Festival Hall (40 S Harrison St, Easton, MD 21601) and will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
During the exhibition on Saturday, the Talbot Historical Society will host a compelling panel conversation featuring board members Bob Shannahan and George Meyer, alongside Chris Grazzini, a distinguished expert on the War of 1812 and a published researcher. The panel will begin at 11:00 am and discuss antique valuation and auctioning.
Lasting Legacy
As part of the Talbot250 Commission’s mission to create a lasting legacy for the community, all items featured in Talbot Treasures will be professionally photographed and their stories documented. These images and narratives will be preserved and shared on the Talbot250 website, allowing future generations to explore and celebrate the rich personal histories that shape Talbot County.
