Celebrating Women’s History
March is Women’s History Month, and we’re honoring the incredible women who shaped Talbot County, from Caroline Burnite Walker, founder of the Talbot County Free Library, to Mary Elizabeth Banning, a pioneering mycologist. Stay tuned as we share their stories and celebrate their impact.
Also, Maryland250 grants are now open! These grants support projects that highlight Maryland’s history as we approach the nation’s 250th anniversary. If you’re planning a history-focused event or initiative, let us know you plan to apply.
Stay connected for more updates and ways to celebrate history this month!
Warm regards,
Sarah Kilmon Communications Coordinator / Talbot250 Administrator Talbot County Government

Celebrate Community Service: Talbot Citizen & Service Awards
The "Maryland You Are Beautiful" Program began in the 1980s as a way to recognize the unsung heroes who make Maryland a better place to live, work, and visit. The program generated enormous state pride and foster volunteerism, goodwill, and community support. When the State program ended in 2022, the Talbot County Council chose to continue the local aspect of the program, renaming it to the Talbot Citizen and Service Awards in 2024, and incorporating it as part of Talbot Day. We are proud to continue the tradition in a new light.
The Talbot Citizen and Service Awards recognize those who make a lasting impact in our community. Whether it’s a friend, neighbor, or local leader, this is a chance to honor their dedication, celebrate their contributions, and highlight their role in Talbot’s history. Nominate someone who is making a difference today!
