At-Home Learning from MPT

at home learning

MPT has launched At-Home Learning, a schedule of public TV programming and online resources designed to help teachers provide accessible distance learning and parents support a learning at home environment.  Included in the initiative are an expanded grade-level weekday TV schedule, digital and unplugged grade-level resources connected by program and subject area; and a toolkit of curated resources for educators and parents/families.

We hope this will prove useful for educators and parents as you continue to support learning efforts in the home during the coronavirus emergency.

About the TV Broadcast

ahl grid

MPT in collaboration with WETA and WHUT are broadcasting an educational schedule for the DMV from 7:00am – 5:00pm.  The weekly slate of programs is structured in diversified time blocks across the three public TV stations, to support three grade bands, specifically early learners (Pre-K through 3rd grade), middle grades (4th through 8th grades), and high school (9th through 12 grade).  Programs cover topics like literacy, social studies, math, and science.

The weekday programming is available free over the air, through cable and satellite providers and, in the case of MPT, also on a livestream at mpt.org/livestream

Grids for each station can be downloaded here.

Teaching and Learning with Television

Television can engage, inspire, and provide meaningful learning experiences for students without the need of computers or the Internet. To enable both parents and teachers to create engaged learning connections, MPT has developed viewing guides with strategies and activities for before, during and after each program is viewed. A framework is introduced for each grade band with thinking, discussion and writing/activity prompts.  See our viewing guides for early learners, middle and high school students.

Along with the viewing guides, programs are connected with grade level digital learning resources and collections from PBS LearningMedia. A robust platform of free standard-aligned videos, interactives, lessons and more.
