Youth Voices Baltimore Community Conversation

Join MPT for a compelling on-air program featuring courageous at-risk youth in Maryland. See how they overcame almost insurmountable obstacles to succeed in school and life. The program is part of MPT’s American Graduate initiative, designed to raise awareness around the high school dropout crisis and shine the light on caring adults in Maryland dedicated to supporting youth in need.

Following the death of Freddie Gray last April, and moved by the unrest, Maryland Public Television gathered personal stories from city residents to voice their thoughts and concerns behind what some call the darkest days of Baltimore’s history. Gain insight into a community that has felt unheard for so many years.

Edcamp: Maryland

Think, learn and collaborate outside of the box in unique “unconferences” driven and designed by participants. Attendees create the session schedule and gain knowledge in topics that will directly benefit themselves and their students. Edcamps are free, provide opportunities for teachers to collaborate and generate new ideas, and educators leave with valuable connections and resources.

Windfarms and Maryland 

May 14 is National Windmill Day, a day that encourages people to visit a local windmill and get involved in restoration projects. Thinkport’s science literacy activity helps students explore the use of wind farms in Maryland via web videos, data and online research. Through the process, students become better thinkers and writers working within different formats and disciplines. (Grades 6-8)

How Can Nitrogen Affect My Business?

Western Maryland is the setting for a science literacy activity about the history and significance of Deep Creek Lake. Students watch a video, read articles and conduct online research in order to write an informative article about the development of algae blooms in a treasured local lake. (Grades 9-12)
