Message from Council Member Sydney Harrison...
November reminds us to slow down, reflect, and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. It’s a time to appreciate the strength of our families, the kindness of our neighbors, and the unity that holds our community together. As we move through this season of gratitude, we recognize how far we’ve come and how much stronger we are when we work together.
In District 9, we continue to build on that spirit of togetherness. Every conversation, community event, and shared effort brings us closer to creating a brighter, more connected future for everyone. When we support one another — whether through volunteering, lending a hand, or simply showing kindness — we strengthen the foundation of who we are as a community.
As we celebrate this season of thankfulness, let’s carry that same energy forward into every day that follows. Together, we can continue making District 9 a place where gratitude, service, and progress shine year-round.
Warm regards, Council Member Sydney Harrison Prince George’s County – District 9

Big News for Brandywine: District 9
Welcomes Southland Industries
We’re proud to share some great news for Brandywine and all of District 9! After nearly six years of dedicated effort supporting the Brandywine Town Activity Center, we've successfully helped bring Southland Industries to our community; creating 400 union, livable-wage jobs with salaries ranging from $75,000 to $150,000. This major investment will strengthen our local economy, boost commercial tax revenue, and lay the foundation for hundreds; potentially thousands; more jobs in the near future.
Southland Industries is a national leader in engineering, construction, and sustainable energy solutions for major projects in healthcare, higher education, and government sectors. Please join us in welcoming Southland Industries to District 9; clear sign that our shared vision for economic growth and opportunity is becoming a reality.
A special thank you to my incredible team; Eric, Kimberly, LaShawn, and Dion; for their hard work, dedication, and unwavering support in helping make this vision come true. Together, we’re building a stronger, more prosperous District 9.
I am grateful and humbled to have served alongside this dynamic team, which has diligently and compassionately supported the residents of District 9 over the past seven years.
Significant positive change is not instantaneous; rather, it necessitates sustained commitment and effort over an extended period to achieve favorable outcomes.
