Dear Neighbors,

This week, I led my colleagues, alongside Member Wala Blegay, in adopting CR-098-2025, a resolution to implement a temporary pause for any building or grading permits for data centers. The resolution temporarily limits the Planning Department from processing, reviewing or approving applications for preliminary plan of subdivision if the proposal includes a data center use. Further, County Executive Aisha Braveboy issued an Executive Order which directs the Department of Permitting Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) to pause acceptance or consideration or processing for any permitting applications for Qualified Data Centers.

Both of these moves come after weeks of us standing together and raising our voices in opposition to data centers that would be dangerously close to our residential areas and our schools.

What CR-098-2025 does:

  • Pauses the review and approval of preliminary plans of subdivision that would include data centers for six months.
  • Prompts the County Council to work alongside other County agencies to develop reasonable standards for any future data center proposals in Prince George’s County.
  • Underscores the importance of the Qualified Data Center Taskforce.
  • Underscores the importance of County Executive Braveboy’s Executive Order on data centers.

What CR-098-2025 does not do:

  • It does not prevent future legislative action or discussion on data centers.
  • It does not approve any specific data center project.

Why this is important:

I have been closely monitoring conversations about plans to build a data Center at the former Landover Mall property. Last week, I joined members of our community and my colleagues on the Council at the Qualified Data Center Taskforce’s meeting to voice our concerns. You can watch the video of my remarks here

How to stay involved:

The Prince George’s County Qualified Data Center Taskforce has two more meetings this year before they submit their findings to the County Council in November. You can watch their meetings via livestream and learn more about attending their meetings in-person by clicking here.
