 The Hyattsville Community Development Corporation hosted a successful Book Bag Give Away, bringing neighbors together to support local families as students prepare for the school year. Hundreds of book bags filled with school supplies were distributed, ensuring children start the year ready to learn. The event highlighted the strength of community partnerships, with local leaders, organizations, and residents joining forces to invest in the success of our youth.
La Corporación de Desarrollo Comunitario de Hyattsville organizó con éxito una Entrega de bolsas, que reunió a vecinos para apoyar a las familias locales mientras los estudiantes se preparan para el año escolar. 🚨 Federal Crime Crackdown in D.C. Raises Local Concerns |

I spoke to FOX 5 DC about potential ripple effects of the federal crime crackdown in Washington, D.C. While the operation has led to 600+ arrests and nearly 90 illegal guns seized, I am worried it could displace crime and unhoused residents into our county’s neighborhoods.
With PGPD short more than 300 officers, and agencies unfamiliar with the area coming in as part of the federal intervention, it can create confusion and a strain on local resources. I believe in the importance of keeping communities safe without overwhelming them with excessive policing.
Hablé con FOX 5 DC sobre las posibles repercusiones de la ofensiva federal contra la delincuencia en Washington, D.C. Si bien la operación ha resultado en más de 600 arrestos y la incautación de casi 90 armas ilegales, me preocupa que pueda desplazar a la delincuencia y a los residentes sin hogar a los barrios de nuestro condado.
Con el PGPD con más de 300 agentes menos y la llegada de agencias desconocidas en la zona como parte de la intervención federal, esto puede generar confusión y sobrecargar los recursos locales. Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Conference |

 I am proud to serve as the Chair of the Large County Coalition for the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) and was excited to attend another incredible MACo Summer Conference. It was four days of strategizing, collaborating, and fellowshipping with the goal of making the state of Maryland a safer and more equitable place for all Marylanders. The conference was a great opportunity to connect with county leaders, legislators, mayors, and other local officials to discuss important issues facing our state. I was particularly interested in the discussions on how we could improve public safety and promote economic opportunities for all residents across the state. The collaborative environment of the conference allowed for the sharing of ideas and best practices, ultimately leading to positive change for Marylanders.
Me enorgullece presidir la Coalición de Grandes Condados de la Asociación de Condados de Maryland (MACo) y me entusiasmó asistir a otra increíble Conferencia de Verano de MACo. Fueron cuatro días de planificación estratégica, colaboración y compañerismo con el objetivo de hacer del estado de Maryland un lugar más seguro y equitativo para todos los habitantes. La conferencia fue una excelente oportunidad para conectar con líderes de condados, legisladores, alcaldes y otros funcionarios locales para debatir temas importantes que enfrenta nuestro estado. Me interesaron especialmente los debates sobre cómo podríamos mejorar la seguridad pública y promover oportunidades económicas para todos los residentes del estado. El ambiente colaborativo de la conferencia permitió compartir ideas y mejores prácticas, lo que en última instancia condujo a un cambio positivo para los habitantes de Maryland.

Investing in Safer Communities: Purple Line Transit Partners Donates to
Pedestrian and Bike Safety Program

 I joined community leaders, families, and students as Safe Kids Worldwide received a $5,000 grant through the Purple Line Transit Partners’ Beyond the Rails Community Grant Program.
The funding will support the Shine & Ride Pedestrian and Bike Safety Program, an initiative designed to educate young people on safe walking and biking practices, helping to reduce accidents and keep children safe on their way to school, play, and beyond.
This grant represents another step toward building safer, stronger communities along the Purple Line corridor.
Me uní a líderes comunitarios, familias y estudiantes cuando Safe Kids Worldwide recibió una subvención de $5,000 a través del Programa de Subvenciones Comunitarias Beyond the Rails de Purple Line Transit Partners.

On August 5, I had the distinct pleasure of attending National Night Out events, alongside many of our incredible public safety officials, in Parkside, Baden Firehouse, Hillcrest Heights Community, Parkside Community, and Barnaby Manor. The community turnout was remarkable, the food was excellent, and the music was truly outstanding. I am consistently impressed by the talent within our county, and I eagerly anticipate further opportunities to connect with my constituents.

 I was honored to take part in the ceremonial groundbreaking for a new and much-needed Hyattsville Elementary School. It is one of 8 schools being built through Phase II of our public-private-partnership (P3) program, allowing construction to be completed in just 3 years.
The state-of-the-art schools will be highly energy-efficient and are designed for longevity, providing modern learning environments for future generations.
Tuve el honor de participar en la ceremonia de colocación de la primera piedra de la nueva y muy necesaria Escuela Primaria Hyattsville. Es una de las ocho escuelas que se están construyendo a través de la Fase II de nuestro programa de colaboración público-privada (P3), lo que permitirá que la construcción se complete en tan solo tres años.

 The 11th Annual Community Giveback brought neighbors, local organizations, and volunteers together for a day of connection, support, and celebration. Residents enjoyed live entertainment, community resources, and family-friendly activities, all aimed at strengthening ties and uplifting our community. This annual tradition continues to foster unity, generosity, and a shared commitment to making our neighborhoods stronger.
La 11.ª Entrega Anual a la Comunidad reunió a vecinos, organizaciones locales y voluntarios en un día de conexión, apoyo y celebración. Los residentes disfrutaron de espectáculos en vivo, recursos comunitarios y actividades para toda la familia, todo con el objetivo de fortalecer los lazos y fortalecer a nuestra comunidad. Attendees enjoyed engaging presentations, music, and health resources, creating an atmosphere of unity and support.

 My father and I had a ball at the National Black Prosecutors Association Gala Awards Dinner. It is inspiring to see the work that this organization is doing to prevent crimes including sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, elder abuse, and more in vulnerable populations, especially Black communities.
Mi padre y yo lo pasamos genial en la Cena de Gala de la Asociación Nacional de Fiscales Negros. Es inspirador ver el trabajo que esta organización realiza para prevenir delitos que incluyen la agresión sexual, la violencia doméstica, la trata de personas, el maltrato a personas mayores y otros en poblaciones vulnerables, especialmente en las comunidades negras.
