I was honored to participate in the Prince George's County Christmas in April home renovation program. I am deeply grateful to the homeowner for graciously welcoming us into her home and trusting us to be part of this important day. Thank you to all the volunteers, contractors, and caterer who gave their time and energy to make this event a success! |

Our Coffee with a Cop event brought neighbors together with local police officers to build connections, share resources, and discuss community concerns. A special thank you to M-NCPPC, PGPD, Maryland State Troopers & Chick-fil-A for allowing me to host! |

The Carnival of Care is an opportunity for parents of children with autism to connect with other families, discover valuable resources, and celebrate the unique strengths and beauty of individuals with autism. Connect with local mental health organizations offering guidance and resources to help navigate the unique journey of caregiving. Discover valuable information and strategies for self-care, and find resources dedicated to understanding and supporting your child's specific needs. For our amazing kids, get ready for a day of fun, with moon bounces, creative face painting, and sweet and savory treats from local food trucks.

We had the pleasure of celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week at Thomas Jefferson Middle School by bringing breakfast to their incredible educators! A heartfelt thank you to the school for welcoming us--and to Dunkin' Donuts for helping us fuel their morning with delicious treats. Teachers are the backbone of our communities, and on this day, we were honored to say, "thank you." |

CR-022-2025: Mortgage Moratorium for County Federal Workers
In response to the large number of Prince Georges County residents being laid off from work by the federal government, Council Member At- Large Calvin Hawkins sponsored, a resolution requesting the governor issue a residential mortgage foreclosure moratorium for Maryland's federal civilian employees. The Council adopted the resolution on May 6.
Pending Legislation:
Council Member At-Large Calvin Hawkins has pending legislation that will help improve the quality of life for his constituents in Prince Georges County. One piece of legislation will require driver instruction on law enforcement procedures during traffic stops. This handbook will explain the traffic laws of the state and give instruction on interactions with law enforcement during a traffic stop. It aims to prevent any escalation that may cause harm to the driver or law enforcement officer.
Another piece of legislation further strengthens child custody, aiming to prevent child abuse and improve safety. The resolution would require the Judicial Council to submit a report to the legislature and the relevant policy committees on the training for judges across all counties. Council Member Hawkins also has pending legislation requiring overdose rescue kits be located on the campus of every public high school and state-supported institution of higher education.

ICYMI! Councilmember Hawkins speaks passionately about the importance of second chances during an interview following the signing of Maryland's Expungement Reform Act of 2025. As a longtime advocate for returning citizens, he reflects on his own journey and urges others to be good stewards of their clean slates, saying "Leave the footprints in the sand so they can follow."
