Hello Neighbors,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As we welcome a new year, I hope everyone had a joyous and restful Christmas season, surrounded by loved ones. I am honored and humbled to share that I was recently elected Vice Chair of the Prince George’s County Council. As a lifelong Prince Georgian, it is a privilege to serve in this capacity and to continue working alongside my colleagues to shape policies that uplift our community and ensure its prosperity. My journey in public service began in 2008 when I was selected as the student member of the Prince George’s County Board of Education. In 2010, I became Maryland’s youngest elected official, representing District 8 on the school board. Over the years, I have remained committed to serving our county, including leading the youth court division in the State’s Attorney’s Office. I focused on creating pathways to keep young people out of the criminal justice system. I have continued that work on the Council by creating and supporting youth leadership initiatives and many other programs.
Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be a year of impactful policy discussions and community progress. As Vice Chair, my goals include working with my colleagues and the executive branch to address our budget shortfall, ensuring responsible economic development, and improving public safety through community-driven initiatives. I am eager to collaborate with residents, stakeholders, and fellow leaders to address these priorities and bring about tangible improvements to the lives of all Prince Georgians. We can build a brighter, more equitable future for our county. One way to make your voice heard is to vote in the upcoming Special Election for County Executive and County Council, District 5. Early voting will be held from February 26 through March 3, 2025, and Election Day is Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
As we embark on this new chapter, I extend my best wishes for a prosperous and fulfilling year. Let us continue to work together to make Prince George’s County a place where every resident can thrive. Happy New Year, and may 2025 bring you good health, happiness, and great success!
Sincerely,
 Vice Chair Edward Burroughs III
On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Council Member Edward Burroughs III was elected Vice Chair for Legislative Year 2025.
