Hello Neighbors,
As the crisp air of fall may soon be upon us and the leaves begin to change, take a moment to embrace the beauty of the changing colors and all the pumpkin spice you like! I am excited about the upcoming harvest festivals and community events that unite us. These gatherings remind us of the importance of connection and the strength of our shared values. We will have opportunities to engage with one another, from family-friendly events to chances to support local businesses.
As we step into this season, I urge you to take a moment to focus on your mental well-being. Fall and the upcoming holiday season can be hectic, but they also present an opportunity to rejuvenate and prioritize self-care. Whether it's a stroll in a park, participating in a local event, or simply a moment of calm amidst the daily hustle, remember that your mental health is crucial for your well-being and for our community to thrive. You are important, and your good heath is a priority.
Your engagement and support make our work meaningful. As we enter election season, I urge you to participate actively in the democratic process. Your voice truly matters. Let’s continue to make a difference through our collective civic engagement and participation. Thank you for allowing me to serve such an amazing community.

The National Park Service has begun renovating the historic Visitor Center at Fort Washington Park. This over 200-year-old treasure is getting critical upgrades, including a new electrical system, freshly painted walls, and brand-new visitor exhibits.
What to Expect: The Visitor Center will be temporarily closed during its regular operating days (Thursday through Sunday) while they complete this vital work. The restrooms will remain accessible in the parking lot throughout the renovation. The Fort itself will stay open to visitors Thursday through Sunday. NPS staff will be available at an informational table and at the bookstore to assist visitors during the closure. The work is expected to take about a month, but they are thrilled to announce the Visitor Center will be partially open for the 200th Anniversary celebration on October 5, 2024. You can visit the progress through signage, social media, and the National Park Service website.

Honorary Commanders Program – AFDW is Seeking Community Leaders:
AFDW is looking for community leaders – or community leaders whom you would like to recommend – to be a part of the Joint Base Andrews or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Honorary Commanders Program. The program intends to pair base leadership with community leaders with limited or no knowledge about the Air Force. The program allows for frequent opportunities to become immersed in the mission, participate in base functions, and express views on issues of mutual concern. This is an excellent way for community leaders to understand the Joint Base Andrews or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling mission better and build a partnership to help our communities plan for and move into the future. Please contact the AFDW Public Affairs Community Relations Chief, Miki Gilloon at miki.gilloon.3@us.af.mil.
