Hello Neighbors,
These last couple of days have been a busy legislative time for the County Council! Earlier this week you heard from me about the passage of CB-33-2022, An Act Concerning Expansion of Prevailing Wage, which will create more middle-class jobs with quality benefits by expanding the scope of the County’s “prevailing wage” law. I am excited to share that we also unanimously passed CR-115-2022, A Resolution Concerning Local Impact Grant Funds Multiyear Plan, which outlines how funding from MGM will be allocated to support the local community in the surrounding area. Additionally, we passed CB-99-2022, An Act Concerning Video Lottery Facility Funding for the purpose of amending the definition of “public education purposes” to include grants to non-profits that provide education services.
I am excited to share more about how these pieces of legislation will work to significantly invest in and support District 8 residents! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the beautiful fall weather out in the district and enjoy some of the community events happening in the coming days!

District 8 Team Goes Pink!
In support of those affected by breast cancer, the District 8 Office wore pink! As breast cancer awareness month ends, we want to take the opportunity to do what we can to increase awareness of the disease and encourage everyone to get checked, educate themselves about the risk factors, and remind friends and family members to do the same!
District 8 in the Community
Last week, I was honored to join the International Association of Fire Fighters at their Fire Ops 101 event! My colleagues and I had the opportunity to do some training exercises and learn more about the challenges fire fighters face every day. Thank you to the International Association of Fire Fighters of District 4 for hosting us and giving us a closer look at all that our Prince George's County Fire Department members do in service to our County. Thank you to all our first responders!
Earlier this month, I attended the Jack & Jill Legislative Day of Action with community leaders and other elected officials! I thoroughly enjoyed discussing the importance of civic engagement. We can truly accomplish great things for our community when we vote, stay engaged, and contribute to our democracy!
To wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month, I was glad to join the Prince George's County Commission of Women to celebrate at their event. It was a beautiful evening with great food, music, and culture!
Honoring The Life of Kaleab Yehenew
Community members in Fort Washington participated in a memorial bike ride and ghost bike event for Kaleab Yehenew who unfortunately passed away following a bicycle accident. Thank you to the organizers who beautifully honored his life with this event.
