Greetings District 8 Neighbors,
This holiday weekend I know many are looking forward to gatherings with family and enjoying time off from work and school. I hope we will all pause for the real meaning this holiday was granted for, to remember those who sacrificed their lives while serving our country so that we could enjoy freedoms. We can never repay the families that paid the ultimate sacrifice of their loved one for us. May this weekend be a time of reflection for all.

We have lost a beloved visionary and industry leader, Milton V. Peterson, Principal and Chairman of Peterson Companies. Milt was renowned for his iconic development in the DMV, including the beautiful National Harbor in Prince George's County. Milt was a generous and kind man who never sought attention. I enjoyed knowing him, having in-depth conversations with him, and watching his visions become realities. Milt even brought me back in touch with my brother's childhood swimming nemesis, Olympic Gold medalist Tom Dolan and his wife, Mary Ellen. My prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Carolyn and his family. District 8 will always have Milt Peterson with us at our National Harbor.

Congratulations to each graduate and their family for making it though a year of uncertainty, pushing through and doing your absolute best to reach this milestone in your life. After this accomplishment with pure determination, you must know there is nothing you can't do! Wishing you the absolute best as you continue thriving and moving forward to become more incredible than you already are! You are District Gr8 and we are Proud of You!
What a difference a year makes! Last year, high school graduates weren't able to walk across a stage to receive their diplomas after all of their hard work. No adrenaline was able to be felt in the air from classmates, knowing they made it. There would be no loud and welcomed yells from family and friends when their names were announced and not the collective shift of the tassels after everyone had received their diplomas, highlighting the next chapter.
Thankfully, this year, our District 8 high school graduates, Crossland, Friendly, Oxon Hill and Potomac are able to take the "walk to remember" across the stage to receive their diplomas! Bowie State University is hosting the outside graduations for Crossland, Friendly and Potomac and the University of Maryland College Park is hosting Oxon Hill High School Graduation.
Congratulations Class of 2021!

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY TO LIFT MASK MANDATE DUE TO CONTINUED DECLINE IN COVID-19 METRICS
Unvaccinated Individuals Strongly Encouraged to Get Vaccinated and Continue Wearing a Mask Until Fully Vaccinated
LARGO, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced today that the County will align with the State of Maryland and CDC recommendations and lift the mask mandate for fully vaccinated individuals, due to a continued decline in key COVID-19 metrics and increasing vaccination rates. These new guidelines will go into effect by Executive Order on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
“Due to a continued decline in key COVID-19 metrics and increasing vaccination rates, we are now in a place where our health officials have advised it is safe to lift our County’s mask mandate,” said Alsobrooks. “I want to thank Prince Georgians for working hard to get us to this point in our fight against COVID-19, and we continue to encourage everyone who is not yet vaccinated to do so as soon as possible. Please remember to be respectful of those who choose to continue wearing a mask, and also please be respectful of people’s personal space as we adjust to these new changes after a difficult year for so many in our community.”
Beginning Friday, May 28 at 5:00 p.m., fully vaccinated individuals can resume normal activities without wearing a mask. In line with the State of Maryland and CDC guidance, masks will still be required on public transportation and in schools, child care settings and health care settings. Unvaccinated individuals are strongly encouraged to continue wearing a mask until they are fully vaccinated and are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Individuals who live or work in the County can walk up to County Health Department vaccination clinics with no appointment needed, or book an appointment in advance online at mypgc.us/COVIDVaccine.
Montgomery County is also lifting the mask wearing mandate on Friday, May 28 at 5:00 p.m.
Please be aware that WSSC Water will resume late fees for bills issued June 1, 2021, and onward. The utility began waiving late fees on March 12, 2020, to assist customers financially impacted by COVID-19, but the temporary late fee waiver assistance program is no longer financially viable due to the ongoing COVID-19-related loss of revenue. To date, WSSC Water has waived nearly $7 million in late fees for 175,000 customer accounts. Late fees will continue to be waived for those enrolled in WSSC Water’s Customer Assistance Program (CAP). Additionally, all customers will continue to benefit from an existing policy that allows for the removal of a late fee once every 12 months. WSSC Water will also continue to suspend water service shutoffs. Click Here for more information
