COVID Updates

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY CLOSES TWO TEMPORARY COUNTY-OPERATED COVID-19 VACCINATION SITES

Sites at Kentland Community Center and Cedar Heights Community Center permanently close due to vaccination operations resuming at the Wayne K. Curry Sports and Learning Complex

Largo, MD– The Prince George’s County Health Department has ended vaccine operations at two of its temporary vaccination sites. The last day for vaccine operations at Kentland Community Center was Friday, April 23rd and the last day of operations at Cedar Heights Community Center was Friday, April 30th.

The Kentland Community Center and Cedar Heights Community Center served as temporary vaccination sites during the closure of the Wayne K. Curry Sports and Learning Complex for scheduled facility maintenance to ensure the County did not lose vaccination capacity.

The staff from both sites will be used to fill personnel gaps at other County-operated vaccination sites and provide additional staffing for the Health Department’s mobile vaccination operations, allowing the mobile units to be deployed more widely and more often.

“The closure of these two sites will not have an impact on our current capacity to vaccinate individuals,” said Prince George’s County Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Health, Human Services, and Education Dr. George L. Askew. “With the Sports and Learning Complex fully operational again, we have the capacity to administer approximately 1,500 vaccines per day at this site, which is actually higher than the combined capacity of those we could administer at the Kentland and Cedar Heights community centers.”

The County continues to operate vaccination clinics at three additional locations: Cheverly Health Center, Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center, and Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Center.

The County and the State of Maryland are in Phase 3 of the COVID-19 vaccination distribution eligibility, which includes everyone 16 and older. Those individuals who live or work in the County can directly book first-dose appointments at all County-operated vaccination clinics by visiting mypgc.us/ProudToBeProtected. Individuals without internet access should call 311 and press # and someone will help schedule appointments. Second-dose appointments will be made at the clinic during the first-dose visit.

Eligible individuals can also seek appointments at the State’s mass vaccination sites by visiting covidvax.maryland.gov or calling 1-855-634-6829. Individuals can also text “MDREADY” to 898-211 to receive text notifications about Six Flags and the State’s other mass vaccination sites.

In addition, the department encourages residents to utilize the County’s new vaccine clinic locator that has an interactive map allowing users to search for clinics located in the County by using an address, a zip code, or a place name.  This tool indicates whether the clinic is operated by the County, the State, a hospital system, or a pharmacy. Individuals who do not have internet access and need assistance can call 311 and press #.

For more information about the County’s vaccination operations, please visit our COVID-19 vaccine webpage, mypgc.us/COVIDvaccine.
