 Greetings District 8 Neighbors!
Proposed Bill CB-48-2020 - Sign Up for July 21st Hearing
CB-48-2020, a charter amendment that may be on the November ballot that could INCREASE your property taxes.
Prince George's County NAACP invited Council Member Jolene Ivey (District 5), Council Member Tom Dernoga (District 1) and me to share our positions on why we voted against the bill at their July 16, 2020 General Membership Meeting. Our colleague, Council Member Derrick Davis (District 6), was also invited to represent why he voted affirmatively for the bill. Prince George's County NAACP will post the meeting and the question and answers on their website. We will share the links once they are posted. This is a very important charter amendment that could impact all Prince Georgians. County Executive Alsobrooks has also stated her opposition to the charter amendment.
People have asked what they can do and we advised them to contact their Council Member and let them know your position on the bill. Share this information with other Prince Georgians you know. You can also register to speak as a Person of Record at the Public Hearing, Tuesday, July 21, the eComment portal is available at 5:00 pm on Friday, 7/17/20 - 3:00 pm on Monday, 7/20/20. During this COVID-19 pandemic no one should be faced with deciding to pay their rent or purchasing their life saving medication. I know the concerns residents have with barriers and gaps for effective healthcare management, so I am happy to announce a Prescription Assistance Partnership I established. This initiative will offer lifesaving, low cost medicine to Prince Georgians while offering the peace of mind knowing they can take care of their living expenses and effectively manage their wellness and recovery. In this first of its kind partnership for District 8, Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center, Greater Baden Medical Services, and two phenomenal minority owned District 8 pharmacies, Allentown Discount Pharmacy and MECMO Pharmacy are partnered to provide easily accessible, quality, and cost-resilient prescriptions now, and for the future.
