Council Member Derrick Leon Davis hosted nearly 200 residents for the “Westphalia Forward” community update at the Westphalia Community Center .
Greetings Westphalia Community,
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the nearly 200 residents who attended the Westphalia Forward Community Update at the Westphalia Community Center on November 16, 2019.
It is my hope that the Community Update event provided you with an opportunity to meet fellow residents and other community stakeholders who are invested in moving Westphalia forward. We thank our government partners who participated and presented great information on land use, economic development priorities, planned infrastructure, and transportation implementation, while responding to questions and concerns regarding general service requests. Furthermore, I hope that you were able to connect with and gain further understanding of the story behind Westphalia - a story that has evolved through comprehensive rezoning, multiple zoning and land use studies and implementation challenges. Yet and still, we have seen progress.
November 19, 2019 marked the beginning of the next chapter in the story of Westphalia, with the enactment of Council Resolution 99-2019, establishing the Westphalia Sector Plan Implementation Board, developed for the purposes of reviewing and evaluating strategies along with recommending appropriate policies and actions that facilitate coordination and implementation of the Westphalia Sector Plan and Sectional Map Amendment. Formerly the Westphalia Sector Development Review Advisory Council, the Westphalia Sector Plan Implementation Board will refine the mission and expand the scope of the Westphalia Sector Development Review Advisory Council to focus on greater stakeholder coordination, community engagement and Plan implementation.
Moving Westphalia forward is not exclusive to those who will serve on the Westphalia Sector Plan Implementation Board. We are in search of volunteers to be a part of the process by completing the Westphalia Sector Plan Implementation Volunteer Form. This work will require the participation of all stakeholders: residents, developers, the business community and our faith-based community working together to identify implementation challenges/opportunities and develop ideas and strategies.
Westphalia Forward is your snapshot of the latest news and initiatives relative to the Westphalia Sector. It is always my goal to connect with you regarding issues affecting the Westphalia community, ways where County officials/agencies may be of assistance and to ensure that you are engaged and informed through every possible channel. Please sign up to receive CouncilConnection, the Council's weekly electronic newsletter, providing you with a weekly wrap-up of all Council activity including links to Council sessions, committee meetings and pending legislation. Our District 6 social media channels continue to be a great source of information for not only Council happenings but Countywide agency news and events. If you have any questions or concerns, please provide your feedback via e-mail to councildistrict6@co.pg.md.us. I look forward to working with you all.
