Maryland Public Service Commission will hold a Public Comment Hearing and a written comment period for consideration of "Request for Modification of Mattawoman Energy Center". The modification seeks to simplify construction, operation and maintenance of the facility; reduce environmental impacts; and reduce costs: (i) converting the MEC's method of cooling from a wet mechanical draft cooling tower to air cold condenser; (ii) increasing the auxiliary boiler rating from 42 MMBtu/hr. to 72 MMBtu/hr. to provide adequate pre-warming of the Heat Recovery Steam Generator prior to starting the combustion turbines; and (iii)  increasing the diesel-fired emergency generator horsepower from 1,490 hp to 2,206 hp to support facility loads during an emergency.  

Written comments may be submitted to the Commission either electronically, by first-class mail, or by hand-delivery on or before Wednesday, August 14, 2019. Comments sent electronically must be submitted through the Commission's Public Comment system, which can be accessed through the Commission's website at www.psc.state.md.us. If submitted by first-class mail or hand-delivery, comments must be addressed to: Terry J. Romine, Executive Secretary, Maryland Public Service Commission, William Donald Schaefer Tower, 6 St. Paul Street, 16th Floor, Baltimore, Maryland 21202. All comments must include a reference to Case No. 9330 and shall be limited to the CPCN conditions that are the subject of Mattawoman’s Request.
