COUNCIL’S HEALTH, HUMAN SERVICES AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE HOLDS PUBLIC SAFETY BRIEFINGS
The Council’s Health, Human Services and Public Safety (HHSPS) committee, chaired by Council Member At-Large Calvin S. Hawkins, II, met Monday, April 1st to receive briefings on the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Report, key recommendations and next steps.  COUNCIL HOSTS MEET AND GREET WITH STATE’S ATTORNEY AISHA N. BRAVEBOY
The Prince George’s County Council hosted a “Meet and Greet” with State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy and her team on Tuesday, April 2. The State's Attorney's Office is charged with serving the interests of the citizens of Prince George's County, and works to safeguard the community through the prosecution of criminal matters. Noting the successful partnership addressing the issue of safe driving in the County, established between her office and Council Member Monique Anderson-Walker, State’s Attorney Braveboy invited Council Members to also partner with her on initiatives focusing on issues such as juvenile justice, and her "Drive Focused, Sober & Safe" Kick Off” event, on April 27th, at the Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex in Fort Washington.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE MEETS
"Sine die," the day the state legislature adjourns its regular session, is April 8th. The Council’s General Assembly committee, chaired by Council Vice-Chair Rodney C. Streeter, met Tuesday, April 2, to review House Bill 1091, proposed state legislation concerning Public-Private Partnerships– Reforms, also known as the P3 Transportation Safeguards Act. The General Assembly committee recommended Council support for the measure with an amendment.  COUNTY COUNCIL CONVENES LEGISLATIVE SESSION
During Tuesday’s County Council session, Council Members approved a letter to The Honorable Nancy J. King, Chair, Budget and Taxation Committee, regarding House Bill 1091, Public-Private Partnerships - Reforms. With its approval of CR-16-2019, the Council also established a “Housing Opportunities for All Workgroup” to assist the County in setting priorities and implementing the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Report. COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE CONSIDERS NEW MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT FOR BUS SERVICES IN THE COUNTY
The Committee of the Whole met Tuesday to review CR-25-2019, a resolution concerning contract approval for a multi-year contract for bus services in Prince George’s County. The County Charter requires that such contracts be approved by resolution of the County Council upon notice and public hearing. EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE COMMITTEE BRIEFED BY SCHOOL CEO
The Council’s Education and Workforce Development (EWD) committee, chaired by Council Member Sydney Harrison, received a briefing on Wednesday, April 3d, from Prince George’s County Schools (PGCPS) Interim CEO Dr. Monica Goldson, and her executive team, as well as representatives from Public Institutions JLL, to discuss Prince George’s County Public Schools "School Construction 101." UPDATE - MDOT TO HOLD SEVERAL PUBLIC SESSIONS IN THE COUNTY IN APRIL ON GOVERNOR’S PLAN TO WIDEN I-495/I-270 TO ADD TOLL LANES
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) are completing the I-495 and I-270 Managed Lanes Study and will host a series of public meetings in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties to present the study and answer your questions. The first meeting in Prince George’s is April 11th , at 6:30 p.m., at the Sports and Learning Center in Landover. See these flyers for details. PLANNING, HOUSING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETS
The Council’s Planning, Housing and Economic Development (PHED) committee, chaired by Council Member Dannielle Glaros, hosted a briefing on Thursday, April 4th, on Food Access and Retail, and to discuss details regarding the status of Shoppers Food stores in the County, as well as the efforts to attract grocery stores to locations affected by anticipated store closings. Presenters represented Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning, the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation, Food Truck Hub Oversight Committee, Institute for Public Health Innovation, and Prince George's County Food Equity Council. Alsobrooks, City of Seat Pleasant Mayor Eugene Grant, the Prince George’s Economic Development Corporation, and a host of other officials and community leaders on Monday, April 1st, to announce that Good Food Markets is coming to the Addison Plaza shopping center in the Seat Pleasant community. “We are overjoyed that Good Food Market is coming to District 7, an area that we consider to be the jewel of Prince George’s County. Our residents deserve quality, reasonably-priced food options with ease of access,” said Council Member Streeter.

District 3 Council Member Dannielle Glaros, Council Member Dannielle Glaros, and District 5 Council Member Jolene Ivey joined County Executive Angela Alsobrooks in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Kaiser Permanente Administrative Building in New Carrollton Thursday morning. The new 176,000-square-foot administrative building in the New Carrollton Transit Center in Prince George’s County, is a state-of-the-art facility. It is home to approximately 850 administrative employees, many of whom are members of KP’s information technology team, an important part of the organization’s growth in the region. The New Carrollton Administrative Building marks a major investment in the New Carrollton Transit Center—a vibrant, mixed-use development that includes a wide range of retail and residential options, as well as a community park.
