RegionalHospitalConstructionCam

We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center to District 6!

Shovels have been placed to the ground.  Cranes are actively moving dirt every day.  Now we have three large banner signs at the site of the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center!  Sometimes, you have to see it to believe it.  Stop by the corner of Arena Drive and Capital Centre Boulevard when you get a chance!

Can't stop by in person?  You can keep track of the hospital's construction by tuning into the online camera portal, courtesy of Clark Construction: http://ow.ly/Ombh30loeu4.

Greetings District 6 Residents, Businesses and Stakeholders!

I hope this latest edition of the District 6 Weekend Reader finds you in good spirits and enjoying the last days of Summer.

Although the Prince George's County Council is in recess, the work of the Council continues in the office and in the community.  Summertime is THE time for community gatherings and festivals, where our District 6 communities always show up and show out.  From Juneteenth to National Night Out 2018,  it affords me the opportunity to connect with many of you regarding issues affecting your communities and ways where County officials and agencies may be of assistance.

As we travel around the District, you see transformation taking place through development focused on maximizing the use of existing infrastructure considering residential, commercial, office, retail, and other uses.  We see progress being made in the construction of the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center every day.  The retail market continues to grow throughout the district with the arrival of German grocer Lidl in Bowie and the expansion of Ritchie Station Marketplace with the opening of Ulta Beauty in September, 2018.

As the Council returns from recess and the Fall season approaches, we invite you to stay engaged through the Council's official web portal, pgccouncil.us, our District 6 social media channels and the District 6 Council webpage.  We also encourage you to connect with your community/civic/HOA leaders for information on what's occurring in your neck of the woods.  Need further assistance?  The District 6 Team and I are available to address your needs via telephone or email at councildistrict6@co.pg.md.us.

Committed to Service, Committed to You!

Zoning Ordinance Rewrite Update

The legislative process to develop new and modern Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations, and provide important tools to facilitate the implementation of the Plan Prince George’s 2035 General Plan and other County policy goals resumes when the County Council reconvenes September 4th.

The new Zoning Ordinance aims to streamline procedures, reduce obstacles to achieving the economic development goals of the County, enhance utility and user-friendliness, encourage appropriate input into the development review process, consolidate and simplify zones and uses, and incentivize development at targeted growth locations.

Committee of the Whole work sessions will be scheduled in September to further the discussion and review amendments to proposed Zoning Ordinance Rewrite legislation before the bills are considered for introduction and scheduled for a final public hearing.

Please check the County Council Calendars and Agendas online prior to Council sessions scheduled for September 4th; September 11th; September 18th; and September 25th, for meeting details. Public comments on amendments to proposed zoning legislation reviewed in the Committee of Whole will be taken.

Established by Council Resolution 26-2015 as a part of the approved FY 2016 County Budget, the Blue Ribbon Commission was charged with recommending policies to the County Council and County Executive over the next year that would address the County's structural deficit - the imbalance caused when normal government spending exceeds tax revenues on an annual basis.
