COUNCIL CHAIR DANNIELLE GLAROS RESPONDS TO DEADLY NEWSROOM
SHOOTING AT CAPITAL GAZETTE BUILDING IN ANNAPOLIS
A senseless tragedy happened in
Annapolis on Thursday, when five newspaper employees were killed and injured in
a terrible mass shooting in the newsroom of the Capital Gazette. The Prince George’s County Council grieves
for the victims’ families, colleagues and friends, who bear an unspeakable
loss. Through their tireless efforts and dedication, reporters play a critical
role in our democracy and throughout our communities as they work to tell our
stories. It takes courage to be a journalist. Even in the face of the horror at
the Capital Gazette, journalists bravely worked to report the truth of their
own experience. The Prince George’s County Council also thanks the first
responders whose extraordinary efforts saved lives, and to everyone who is
lending their support during this most difficult time.

PRINCE GEORGE'S IS STILL GROUNDBREAKING!
RIVERDALE PARK BRIDGE OPENS;
TOPGOLF BREAKS GROUND IN PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY
Friday, June 22 was a busy day
for economic development in Prince George’s County. Council Chair Dannielle Glaros joined with
County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, state and local officials, and
residents to open the bridge between Riverdale Park Station and the University
of Maryland Discovery District. “This is an incredibly exciting time for
growth in Riverdale Park,” said Glaros. “The long-awaited bridge at Riverdale
Park Station will serve as a vital link between Riverdale Park and the
Discovery District, connecting residents, visitors and workers to a wide range
of retail and amenities, and the planned Purple Line Station. Residents will also enjoy easier access to the
University of Maryland along Baltimore Avenue, and growing redevelopment
surrounding the Riverdale Park MARC station and the College Park Metro. This
project will improve community connections, and we are ready to put it to good
and frequent use.”
Later in the day, Council Member
Obie Patterson joined County Executive Baker and other officials at National
Harbor to break ground for Topgolf, a unique entertainment venue attractive to
golfers and nongolfers alike, is expected to create about 500 new jobs in
Prince George’s County. Topgolf features
a three-story venue at the Oxon Hill location, with over 100 hitting bays,
restaurant, dozens of video screens, gaming areas and spaces for private
parties. Community benefits include
special golf practice discounts for kids, high school golf team members, and
