Growing a Greener Prince George's County

Prince George's County is growing greener - one tree at a time! This spring, the Department of the Environment planted 2,147 native trees and more than 3,000 native perennials and shrubs throughout the County as part of its Urban Tree Planting Program.

A new video takes residents behind the scenes to see this work in action and learn how expanding our urban tree canopy can help create healthier, more resilient communities. From providing shade and improving air quality to managing stormwater and supporting local wildlife, trees are an important part of the County's environmental future.

Watch the Urban Tree video here and see how we're planting today for a greener tomorrow.

What Happens After It Rains? A Closer Look at Stormwater Management

Rain may seem routine, but what happens after it reaches streets, parking lots, and neighborhoods is part of a much larger environmental story.

Stormwater management was among the areas explored by students during this summer's Summer Youth Enrichment Program at the Prince George's County Department of the Environment (DoE).

During the six-week program, students visited stormwater management sites and saw how environmental programs and infrastructure connect to everyday life in Prince George's County.

DoE's work includes clean water and flood-control services, and its Stormwater Management Division supports several programs related to water quality, watershed protection, and stormwater management.

The students' experiences also provide a natural starting point for The Green Table: helping residents better understand the people, programs, and services behind the Department's work.

In the coming weeks, The Green Table will use photographs, video, and other DoE content to take a closer look at stormwater and other environmental topics. We will also continue sharing reflections from Summer Youth Enrichment Program interns, whose six-week experience introduced them to a variety of DoE programs and environmental issues.
