Labor Day Waste Collection Schedule 

County Government offices, with the exception of public safety agencies, will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Curbside collection of organics (food scraps and yard trim) will slide from Monday, September 7, to Tuesday, September 8.

Regular trash, bulky, and recycling collection services will also slide to the following day, with regular collection starting Wednesday, September 9, through Saturday, September 12.

Las oficinas del Gobierno del Condado, con la excepción de las agencias de seguridad pública, estarán cerradas el lunes 7 de septiembre en conmemoración del Día del Trabajo.

Calling All Filmmakers: Submit Your Climate Story by August 28th!

The Prince George's County Department of the Environment and Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council are calling on filmmakers to submit films for the new Climate & Environmental Storytelling Track of the Prince George's Film Festival.

We're looking for compelling stories that explore climate action, environmental justice, sustainability, clean energy, conservation, resilience, and community-led solutions.

Narratives, documentaries, shorts, animation, and student films are welcome.

Selected films will be featured as part of the Climate & Environmental Storytelling Track, which kicks off November 19 in conjunction with the Braveboy Climate Leadership Summit and continues during the Prince George's Film Festival, November 19–22.

A Summer to Remember For DoE Interns

Prince George's County Department of the Environment (DoE) recently concluded its Summer Youth Enrichment Program, bringing six weeks of learning, exploration, and hands-on experience to a close for 11 interns.

Throughout the summer, the interns participated in special projects and field experiences that introduced them to various aspects of the Department's work. Their experiences included visits to Stormwater Management sites, Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill, Poplar Island, and the County's animal shelter, as well as other opportunities to observe environmental programs and operations firsthand.

During their final week with DoE, the interns presented and attended an awards event marking the conclusion of their summer experience.

The Prince George's County Animal Shelter will host a Drive-Up Dog and Cat Vaccination Clinic on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., at 3750 Brown Station Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20770.

County residents can receive rabies vaccinations and microchipping services for $20 per pet (cash only). Please bring proof of residency. There is a limit of two pets per vehicle.

Prince George's County Invests More than $400,000 in 15 Community Resilience Projects

Prince George’s County is investing nearly half a million dollars in 15 community-led projects to help neighborhoods prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate-related emergencies. 

Through the Community Resilience Hub Grant Program, administered in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, local nonprofits, faith-based organizations, community associations, and municipalities will expand:

✅ Emergency preparedness
✅ Food security
✅ Renewable energy solutions
✅ Climate education
✅ Community gardens and food forests
✅ Neighborhood resilience resources
