June is Flood Awareness Month

June marks the beginning of hurricane season, and severe weather conditions can cause flooding, threaten lives, and damage property. Your Department of the Environment (DoE) wants to help County residents and business owners protect their homes, businesses and personal belongings if flooding occurs and to be flood-ready, flood-smart, and flood-safe. For more information and resources at environment.mypgc.us/floodmanagement.

Prince George’s County Awarded Nearly $1.4 Million to Expand Energy Efficiency and Solar Access for Residents

Enery equity

Prince George’s County has been awarded nearly $1.4 million through the Maryland Energy Administration’s Residential Energy Equity Grant Program to support home energy efficiency improvements and expand access to solar energy for income-qualifying residents. The funding will help eligible households lower utility costs, improve home comfort, and increase access to clean energy technologies—especially important as summer temperatures and energy bills rise.

The investment reflects the County’s continued commitment to energy equity, affordability, and building a more sustainable future for residents. Read more about the funding and its impact.

Climate Resident Advisory Group Meets to Advance County Climate Planning

Approximately 20 participants of the Climate Resident Advisory (CRA) group gathered in person recently at the University of Maryland Environmental Finance Center to identify neighborhood climate challenges, community assets, and partnership opportunities that could strengthen local resilience and preparedness in Prince George's County.

The advisory group, which helped shape the County’s Climate Action Implementation Strategy Plan (CAISP), meets regularly to support ongoing climate initiatives and strengthen collaboration between residents and County leaders.

Speakers included Department of the Environment Deputy Director Derrick Coley and Darrell Small of the County’s Office of Homeland Security/Emergency Management, who shared insights on preparedness and resilience planning.
