A Message from Your Interim State’s Attorney
Dear Prince Georgians:
On June 18, 2025, I was officially sworn in as Interim State’s Attorney, following the election of former State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy as County Executive.
According to State law, when a vacancy has occurred in the role of State’s Attorney, the Circuit Court appoints an individual to fill that role until the next election, which will take place in November 2026. I am honored to step into this new role and continue working on behalf of the residents of our great County.
For nearly 6 months, I had the privilege of serving as Acting County Executive, a first in our County’s history. I assumed that role after former County Executive Angela Alsobrooks was elected to the U.S. Senate. As Chief Administrative Officer for 4 years prior to that, I was required to step in during such a transition, and doing so was both humbling and deeply meaningful.
Over the past 14 years, I have served in multiple leadership roles in government, gaining valuable experience in managing operations, navigating complex challenges, and leading with purpose and accountability. As Acting County Executive, my focus was to keep our County Government stable, functional, and responsive through a significant period of change. I am proud that, together, we worked hard to deliver a balanced budget, preserve vital services, and support our residents, despite historic challenges. We stayed grounded in purpose, united by a vision of progress for all who call Prince George’s County home.
Now, I am honored to return to the place where my legal career began, the Office of the State’s Attorney. While the role of State’s Attorney is new to me, I understand the job and the impact that this office - our lawyers and our support staff - have on our community. I began my legal career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in this very office, prosecuting various crimes, from guns to child abuse to murder. After some time in private legal practice, I later returned to serve as Principal Deputy State’s Attorney, where I was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the office and leading the lawyers and support staff in our mission to seek justice.
My leadership experience as Acting County Executive, Chief Administrative Officer, and Principal Deputy State’s Attorney has given me a deeper appreciation for the work of the Office of the State’s Attorney and the impact that it has on individual people in our community and on our community as a whole. Our residents deserve a justice system that is honest, fair, and accountable, and that is what I am committed to delivering each day in this role. Whether leading the County through transition or standing in the courtroom, my philosophy has always been the same: do the right thing, seek to do good for our residents, and serve with integrity.
As I begin my tenure as Interim State’s Attorney, I am focused on pursuing justice with skill and integrity as well as building trust through transparency and fairness. I am taking time during my first 60 to 90 days to assess where we are as an office. It is important that I examine our internal operations, review our community engagement efforts, and talk directly with residents and community partners to better understand areas in which we can grow.
Over the coming months, I look forward to being present in our communities and engaging with residents and stakeholders to hear what matters most to you. We encourage you to follow us on social media @pgcsao on Facebook, X, and Instagram to stay updated! We welcome your questions, your ideas, and your input.
I am excited to serve as your Interim State’s Attorney, and I look forward to the work we will do together in the days and months ahead.
Sincerely,
Tara H. Jackson Interim State’s Attorney
