Bike to Work Day Encourages Healthier Commutes
May is recognized as Bike to Work Month, and many residents of Prince George's County took advantage of this during Bike to Work Day. The event encourages individuals to bike to work instead of driving, promoting alternative modes of transportation, reducing carbon footprints, and improving the environment.
Multiple pit stops were set up throughout the county for participants. The Department of Public Works and Transportation hosted the Largo/Kettering/Perrywood pit stop in collaboration with several community partners, including the Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center, The Capital Market, Maryland-National Capital Park Police (Prince George's County Division), Department of the Environment, Capital Bikeshare, Prince George's County Office of Community Relations, and many others.
The pit stop served as a hub for residents to connect with elected officials, including State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy, who shared inspiring words about the importance of bike and pedestrian safety. District 6 Council Member Wala Belgay and At-Large Member Calvin S. Hawkins also showed their support for the riders.
