Prince George’s County Announces Holiday Closings for Memorial Day

County Government offices, with the exception of public safety agencies, will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

Per the County's new holiday waste collection schedule, ALL organics (food scraps/yard trim), regular bulky, trash, and recycling collections slide one day the week of May 26 with collections starting Tuesday, May 27 and ending Saturday, May 31 (see below graphic).

Residents of a municipality or those with a private contract hauler should check with their respective management offices for the waste collection schedule.

Prince George's County Celebrates
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI) is celebrated nationwide in May to recognize and honor their rich contributions. The theme for this year is "A Legacy of Leadership Resilience."

Acting County Executive Tara H. Jackson encourages all Prince Georgians to come together in celebration and reflection to pay tribute to the legacy and impact of the AANHPI community. For a listing of events and activities, visit www.pgcmls.info/asian-pacific-american-heritage.

County Shelter Updates Hours of Operation

The Prince George's County Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center (ASFAC) has adjusted and expanded its hours to meet community needs. The change will provide future adopters with more flexibility to visit our shelter pets during evening hours.

Effective immediately, the facility will open:

Tuesday – Friday:  11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Saturday:   10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

NEW: Sunday - Monday: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
(Open for all services except adoptions)

All adoption applications must be completed one hour before closing.
