Prince George's County Celebrates ‘Bike to Work Day’
Community Kick-Off Event – May 15th at 7AM
UPPER MARLBORO, MD – The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is Prince George’s Proud to celebrate Bike to Work Day on May 15 at 7:00 AM with a community kick-off event at the Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center. Bike to Work Day, held annually during Bike Month and National Bike to Work Week, promotes cycling as a healthy, safe, sustainable mode of transportation.
The Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center is 1 of 11 pit stops co-hosted by DPW&T and M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County. This pit stop will be held at 431 Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro, adjacent to the Perrywood Elementary School and the paved Watkins Park Trail. Additionally, the site is easily accessible to/from existing bike lanes along Watkins Park Drive. The Pit Stop will operate from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Registered Bike to Work Day cyclists at the Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center pit stop will receive a Bike to Work Day t-shirt, information on Capital Bikeshare, bike and pedestrian safety information, brochures and giveaways on County services, parks and recreation programs, and community initiatives.
The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) through its Commuter Connections program and in conjunction with Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) promotes and organizes annual Bike to Work Day events throughout the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area at 109 bicycle pit stops in the Washington, DC Metropolitan region including 11 pit stops throughout Prince George’s County.
Bike to Work Day is an opportunity remember the importance of bicycle safety as advocated by the Vision Zero Prince George’s Initiative and The Street Smart Campaign. Safety is a shared responsibility, and we encourage cyclists to Be Seen, Be Alert and Be Safe while cycling, and implore motorists share the road with all roadway users.
Residents, County employees and visitors can participate and register for “Bike to Work Day”. Registration is open until Thursday, May 15, 2025. On-site registration is also available. Register for Bike to Work Day at https://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/.
