Earth Day is Every Day!
Thank you for Supporting Earth Month
|
The Department of the Environment (DoE) is grateful to everyone who participated in activities and events and supported the many programs offered during this year's Earth Month Celebration - "The Power of Being Green."
In April, DoE hosted:
- Mulch Madness (approximately 398 participants)
- Document Shredding event at Duval High School (approximately 434 residents dropped off material for 9,550 lbs.).
- Electronics Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Event at Friendly High School (approximately 475 residents dropped off 33.204 lbs. or 16.61 tons of HHW).
- Pet Parenting and Rabbit Handling Class
- Volunteer Orientations for pet lovers
-
PGCLitterTRAK training and rain check rebate programs.
- In addition, DoE participated in an Arbor Day event at Oxon Hill Middle School and was a sponsor of the Prince George's County Youth Empowerment Summit.
- DoE also created a series of videos highlighting one of our four divisions each week: Animal Services, Sustainability, Resource and Recovery, and Stormwater Management. They can be viewed at YouTube@PGCSprout/Videos.
Although it is now May, we remind everyone that Earth Day is Every Day. So, continue to be great environmental stewards throughout the year and know there is power in being green.
Prince George's County Celebrates 41 Years as Tree City USA Awardee
The Prince George’s County Beautification Committee (PGCBC), along with County officials and volunteers, joined the students and faculty members of Oxon Hill Elementary School on Friday, April 25, to plant 14 native trees in honor of Arbor Day.
Prince George’s County was recognized by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forest Service with the Tree City USA® award. Prince George’s County is the only County in the state to receive this award for 41 consecutive years.
